“Victoria Clube de Golfe” is a championship course of 18-hole par 72 course, occupying a total area of 90 hectares and with a total distance of 6,560 meters. Every care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the existing wetlands, the typical vegetation of carob, olives and almond trees, and several lakes, occupying 13 hectares, providing mirrors of water and strategic reservoirs for watering purposes. With 5/6 tees per hole, wide and undulating fairways, extensive water obstacles and well positioned bunkers; Victoria will reward heroic and ambitious shots.
Another major attraction is formed by an exceptional driving range and by an enormous putting green area of around 2,500m2.
One extraordinary fact concerning Victoria is that the Palmer design team masterly created 18 greens with totally different shapes and sizes. This is one of the distinguishing characteristics of the course, and for which local knowledge will be an advantage. International airport: Faro, 20 kms. (20 minutes)
Pro Tips.
The par 4 first rises from the tee in a dog-leg to the right. Long hitters may be tempted to carry the encroaching trees, forming a barrier to the right-hand side of the fairway. At 300m it's not very long, but there are awkwardly placed bunkers to catch a good drive or wayward approach shot.
The par 3's - the 3rd and 6th - are a delight, both visually and to play. The 6th offers more of a test. There's is a lake on the left and that makes club selection paramount.
When a course is as visually appealing as this one, it is hard to determine which hole lingers in the mind the longest, but the twisting and turning par 4 seventh is a contender. Shadows of trees, mounds and hollows dissecting the fairway conspire to confuse, but a well sruck and very accurate drive will set up a comfortable approach to the green.
The second nine opens with a benign par 4 of 335m. An elevated tee affords views inland to the hills. The rolling fairway makes you want to open the shoulders and look for a relaxed, comfortable shot to the generous green.
The 11th - a par 5 has fairway bunkers and and requires accuracy to score well. The par 4 sixteenth invites a drive to the right side of the fairway where there is a strategically placed bunker.
Perhaps the most distinctive change in the back 9 - the former north holes - has been the swapping of the pars on the 17th and 18th. The 17th is now a beautifully designed par 4, with subtle undulations in the fairway making the approach distance difficult to judge.
For those familiar with the finishing hole as it used to be, there is a treat in store. Now extended and rating a par 5, the new design still temps the confident player to try for the green in 2, setting up a real eagle possibility.
