Salgados Golf

Situated close to the sea, Salgados and its lakes pose a real challenge to the technical skills of a golfer. This proximity to the sea and the variety of lakes make this a very interesting golfing test, different to the other courses in the Algarve.

The course, a links with many water hazards, is not very long, yet you will need all your short-iron skills to reach the greens. Driving accuracy is also essential for achieving good scores, making the course a pleasant experience, especially for players with reasonable technical skills. Besides this, the eighteen holes are well balanced, as each half of the course has two par 5's of around 500m and to par 3's of over 170m.

Prop Tips.

To gain maximum satisfaction from playing this course you need to think about each shot carefully. Never underestimate the stiff onshore breeze. You´ll be tested on every shot in your bag from the 1st tee. The par 5 sixth has a lake running the entire length of the right hand side. The fairway is generous enough off the tee, but there is a tendency to think left and overdo it. The hole is 515m, the green is offset to the right, protected by water and the fairway is a good deal narrower. The approach is all carry, with a scant 20m or so in front of the 2 tiered green. Have a thought that it might be wiser to take the dry route round to the left. The next is a testing par 4 of 415m. You're usually playing into the wind but technically, probably one of the best holes in Portugal.
Of the par 3s, the 12th is over water - 130m to a 2 tiered green. It can be intimidating. The 14th & 15th are 2 par 5's where you can really open the shoulders. The 15th is 545m and you're teeing off over a tidal creek. With a line of ornamental bushes to the right, left looks like the best line, but you do need to avoid the dune hummocks which divide this from the fairway of the previous hole.
