Parque Da Floresta Golf

Designed by Pepe Cancedo, one of Spain's most respected architects, whose philosophy of golf course construction involves minimal alteration to the existing terrain. Its widely varying holes run through valleys, vineyards and eucalyptus covered ravines, and are flanked by olive, plam and pine trees.

The first hole is a 312m par 4 which curves graciously towards the east, and a challenge for those wishing to reach it in two. The first nine ends memorably, as the third shot to the green must go over a stream. On the second nine, the highlight is the 11th, whose green is well protected by water, and the 18th, which ends in an amphitheatre right beneath the clubhouse. The clubhouse is typically Portuguese and offers spectacular panoramic views over the mountains and sea, besides a general view over eleven of the holes.

Pro Tips.

On the par 4 - 312m 1st hole it's necessary to keep the drive to the right to avoid the ravine on the left, which the fairway inclines towards. If you feel confident, take your next shot across it to the green. It's actually a shorter distance than if you set out to play safe.
The 5th has the most spectacular views from the tee. Don't letyour concentration wander though. 112m separate you from the green nestling downhill on a hillock. Dependant on the wind you can play a wedge to a 4 iron.
The 9th is a true stroke index 1: a long par 5, to an elevated green. You need a good rive up the right-hand side of the fairway, followed by a long or wood, again favouring the right. You should be then just short of the stream which cuts across the fairway. To the green from there will be at least 2 clubs' length more than u think from the distance indicated.
On the back 9, the par 4 - 14th really is a gem. The line form the tee is down towards the fairway bunker: anythig right risks being out of bounds. The 2nd shot is played along the bottom of the valley. The green is protected by a stream to the right and cork oaks to the left and behind. The green is like riding a roller coaster. Take great care over the line of putt.
