Palmares Golf

Palmares Golf course is laid out on the side of a south-facing hill overlooking the Bay of Lagos. It is unquestionably has the most attractive location of all the golf courses in the Algarve. The views as you play your round are quite breathtaking.

Five of the 18 holes are situated on sand-dunes along the Atlantic coast on the Meia Praia beach. The remaining 13 holes are laid out among gently undulating hills.

Hole no. 5, Stroke Index 1 is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most outstanding links hole in Europe.

Most of other holes enjoy either panoramic views over the Bay of Lagos or of the more distant Monchique hills.
Palmares Golf Course is a Par 71, including 11 par 4's, three par 5's, and 4 par 3's.

Pro Tips.

The first hole - a par 4 is one of the most stunning in the Algarve. The tee is high up, looking directly out to sea. The fairway drops away steeply to a green which is tucked away out of sight. It's a slight dog-leg to the right, stroke index 4, which gives an idea of difficulty. A good drive amd thoughtful club selection for the approach gives the chance for an early par.
The next 5 are sea level, parallel to the beach. It's usually the par 5 fifth which upsets the score - with the back of the dunes running the whole length on the rightand sandy waste on the left. The fairway is generous enough, but somehow the sand is an invisible magnet for the 2nd &3rd shots. The green is concave and if you fire and run past the flag, the ball nver seems to run back. The 10th is a 165m par 3 from an elevated tee to an elevated green, across the valley and the wind makes further than it looks. You've a couple of par 4s then ... the 12th - 400m, and the 16th - that's 418m. From the back tees all you can see is the rising ground. A good drive should you get you to the top where you can see the green. But it's not all straightforward, because the fairway then drops away to the left. There's another panoramic view out to sea from the 17th. Although only 458m and a par 5, this is a dod-leg left, pretty well all downhill. There is a great temptation to fire the 2nd over the fairly open area of scrub on your left, looking for a certain birdie. Don't!
