Unusually, this is a municipal course; there aren't many of them on the Costas.
In a class of its own, it is well worth visiting but advanced bookings essential as the locals get preference.
It came into being because the local village, Guardiaro, had more golfers than any other of a similar size in Spain, since many of them worked on the nearby Sotogrande course. They aggityated for a course of their own, and with much help from Robert Trent Jones (amongst others) a nine hole course was eventually built. A second nine holes, designed by Dave Thomas, were added later and, more recently, a stylish clubhouse.
