Aroeria was originaly designed by Frank Pennink and opened in 1973. It is one of Lisbon’s most popular courses. Aroeria II was designed by Donald Steel and was opened in 2000
Located within comfortable driving distance of Lisbon the courses are situated in an area of pine trees.
Arperoa I
The first hole is a par-4 that demands a very accurate second shot as a water hazard waits to the left and a large bunker to the right. Two other holes worth a special mention are the eleventh and the fourteenth. This course is a favourite location for Portuguese tournaments and charity events, and has twice hosted the Portuguese Open.
Aroeira is also a golf and real estate development, so don't be too surprised to find big villas occupying small plots of land on some of the course's boundary. On Aroeira I the villas do not however dominate completely, the quality of the course is impressive and much of the back-nine has a pleasantly natural feel based on its pine forest environment. The sometimes tight-ish tree-lined fairways eliminate the need for fairway bunkering and thankfully the rough between the trees is not too penalising. Relatively deep sand-traps are reserved for protecting the small, good quality greens.
The course lies amongst picturesque scenery and will give every golfer a pleasurable game of golf. Competitions are regularly held at Aroeria meaning the condition of the course is to top standards allowing for good scores to be achieved.
Aroeira II
Designed to comply with European Tour recommendations and designed a course with future Portuguese Opens in mind. Its 18 long greens wind round 5 lakes and the various tees for each hole mean it can be played by players of all levels. For a number of years it has hosted the Qualifying School of Ladies European Tour and several Portuguese Ladies Opens.
