The Algarve is well known for being as a world ranking holiday destination for holidays for families, teenagers in the summer and golfers though out the year.
Golfing Options are pleased to be able to offer a full range of value for money family and golf holidays in the Algarve. The fantastic hotels and Golf courses and beautiful landscapes of the Algarve make it one of Europe’s top holiday destinations.
Central Algarve
Containing the resorts of Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo. The exclusive Quinta do Lago estate is the busiest golf area in Europe with 72 holes shared by four excellent 18-hole courses, two of which are listed in the 25 best golf courses in Europe. There are also lots of first class restaurants, top nightclubs and Shopping Centres. And if you want to do nothing at all, there’s a beautiful two mile stretch of golden sand as well as endless unspoilt countryside. It's this unrivalled combination of great golf courses, world-class facilities and endless non-golfing activities that make Algarve golf holidays so popular.
Vilamoura is set to become Europe’s largest leisure complex. It covers 4,000 acres and currently includes five golf courses and two more on the way from Faldo & O’Connor, tennis courts, a riding school, fishing and shooting facilities and indoor and outdoor sports complexes. The focal point is the large marina, which is fronted by some very good restaurants, cafes and shops. The nightlife is lively, cosmopolitan and varied with a great mix of bars, clubs and restaurants.
Eastern Algarve
Tavira is a more traditional place and is part of one of Portugal’s most important nature reserves. It’s quiet, has a rugged landscape and a unique beauty. As a resort destination for golf breaks, it has emerged as a new alternative in the Algarve in recent years. The courses have been well thought out and a number of good hotels are now only a short distance from the airport.
Western Algarve
For a golfing holiday in Portugal the Western Algarve is a mixture of the traditional and the modern, from the lovely old towns of Lagos, Alvor and Portimao to the tourist hotspots of Albufeira.
Moving down the coast you come to Praia do Carvoeiro, which is usually known just as Carvoeiro nowadays. Despite its popularity, it has managed to avoid the tower block syndrome, spreading sideways rather than upwards. Suburbs of good quality villas have been built to the east and west of the village.
Portimao is not renowned for its beauty but it has plenty of character and a long history as a port. You can enjoy shopping there, particularly in the Rua do Comercio. If you've never tried fresh sardines, Portimao is the place to do it. It's still a lively fishing port and the fish are just great.
Lagos is set on one of the largest bays in the Algarve and is an attractive, bustling town. A squat, 17th century fort and tumbledown walls guard the harbor entrance, providing an exciting mix of old and new Portugal.
